Our Story

Gluteness Gourmet is a family owned and operated company. The company idea generated from the kitchen of Lana’s home. Lana is one of the founders and the food technologist behind the company’s products. She has been diagnosed with gluten intolerance since 2011. Coming from a very traditional home back in the Eastern Europe, Lana and her family have been accustomed to preparing and eating foods that call for flours in their recipes. Being gluten intolerant made Lana’s everyday life and dining experiences a struggle. Gluten Awareness was just emerging in the Canadian communities and there was a lack of gluten free products in the supermarkets. That is when Lana decided to take matter into her own hands and come up with her original gluten free food recipes. With time her recipes got better and better and soon they were just as good if not better than the original.  With the ongoing support of her family Lana decided to launch Glutenless Gourmet where she can share her original gluten free great tasting foods with the rest of the gluten sensitive and intolerant population in North America. Lana is very passionate about living gluten free and with the help of Glutenless Gourmet she strives to raise awareness and educate the general public about gluten and its impact on those that are affected.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley or any of their crossbred varieties and derivatives. In baking, gluten is the binding agent within the flour that prevents the baked good from crumbling. As such, gluten is found in many processed and packaged foods.

Why Gluten Free?

According to Health Canada, celiac disease (CD) is recognized as one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide affecting an estimated 1% (1/133) of Canadians and Americans, with less than 10% of people with celiac disease having been diagnosed. Consumers with celiac disease or sensitivity to gluten are seeking information on product ingredients and production methods, as gluten free foods are not an optional lifestyle choice but are necessary to prevent adverse reactions. As a gluten free diet is the only current treatment for celiac disease, the demand for these types of products will continue to grow.

Almost one third of Canadians (10 million) are looking for gluten free products. This includes about 2.5 million Canadians requiring gluten free products for medical reasons (celiac disease = 1% or 350,000; non-celiac gluten sensitivity = 6% or 2.1 million). The vast majority, more than 7 million, perceives gluten free products to be a healthier choice or in some cases have a family member with a medical need.
